Stamps R Greetings Stamp Collectors:
I am a member of the Sequoia Stamp Club and Chair of the Stamps R Us Youth Club which is run by a volunteer committee of the Sequoia Stamp Club. The goal of Stamps R Us is to expose youth to stamp collecting. Because of the busy life that both youth and their parents live, we have found that the best way to expose young people to stamps is through a mail program. For a $5 annual membership fee, we mail 2 large instructional mailings and 4 smaller “stamps only” mailings throughout the year. The instructional mailings include everything beginners need to start a collection and learn all about philately.
We also invite each youth member and friends to attend PENPEX where we have three tables, each with fun stamp-related activities. They can watch videos about stamps, walk away with lots of freebies, and if joining the youth club, can grab from the enormous treasure chest to get additional special goodies. At PENPEX 2011 held on December 2 and 3, we had over 20 children attend along with numerous Boy Scouts. Children ages 3 to 17 along with their parents participated and everyone had a great time.
Currently, Stamps R Us has 39 energetic members. A membership application is available online in the Stamps R Us section of the Sequoia Club website, from any of our youth club members, or contact me at (650) 366-6132 or via email at sequooiastampclub@yahoo.com.
The Sequoia Stamp Club offers much for local collectors from auctions, presentations, local news, and question and answering opportunities. Included in this monthly news eBlast are the upcoming Sequoia Stamp Club activities and area stamp shows.
