On December 5-6, 1987, PENPEX was open to guests both days from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. There were 20 dealers along with the USPS.
The show cachets designed by Davis Harris, Jr., feature the engine of the Del Monte Express, a luxurious train which ran from 1878 to 1961 transporting the “rich and famous” from San Francisco to the fashionable Del Monte Hotel located on the Monterey Peninsula. The covers were franked with a Locomotive booklet stamps. The cachets sold for $1.50 each or $4.95 for a set of five.
A complete History of PENPEX exhibit will be on display at PENPEX 2011 on December 3 and 4 at the Community Activity Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City. The stamp show is free and open to the public.
