1984 PENPEX Cachet

On December 1-2, 1984, PENPEX was again held by Peninsula and Sequoia Stamp Club members. The committee member were: Bill Collins, cachets; Joss D. Cooney, youth; Eva Cumming, artwork; Treasurer Landry G. Doster, security; John P. Dusel, publicity; Michael Fineman, publicity; Jim Goodman, frames; Rupert S. Grey, youth; Thomas R. Klein, Jr., food and frames; Ilona Olsen, hospitality; Ed Rosen, bourse; Art Smothers, exhibits; Paul H. Swierstra, printing; Marie Teixeira, publicity; Chair Cyrus Thompson; Secretary Henry Washauer, publicity; Noreen Will, hospitality; Bernard Wilson, bourse; Bror E. Youngstrom, honorary chairman; and John T. & Rena Zambarelon, publicity.

The 43 exhibit frames of 12 pages each were rented from Sunnyvale Stamp Club. The entry fee was free to sponsoring club members and $2/frame to others. The Grand Award was won by Sequoia Stamp Club member and later president, John P. Dusel, for his “Captain James Cook’s Voyages of Exploration” exhibit.

The PENPEX ’84 cachet, featuring 49ers quarterback Matt Cavanaugh poised to throw, was designed and signed by Sequoia Stamp Club Secretary Eva Cumming, and franked with recently issued Jim Thorpe stamp. The cachet sold for 75¢.

A complete History of PENPEX exhibit will be on display at PENPEX 2011 on December 3 and 4 at the Community Activity Building, 1400 Roosevelt Avenue, Redwood City. The stamp show is free and open to the public.
